     Sort order of publications

Sorting by Year Descending

If you opt to select "Year" and "Descending", your publications sorting will be based additionally on selections &/or fields available within a certain publication entry. Note that not all Publication entries require the same fields/ information. For example: Journal Articles and Book entries have different types of citation related information associated with them and thus OpenScholar orders them based on the available information.

With that, this is how your Publications will be ordered:

  1. Publications marked "Forthcoming"
    1. Publications marked "Forthcoming" and have been marked as Sticky
    2. Publications marked "Forthcoming" and by Created By date (in descending order)
    3. Publication marked "Forthcoming" and by Title

  2. Publications marked "Working Paper"
    1. Publications marked "Working Paper" and have been marked as Sticky
    2. Publications marked "Working Paper" and by Created By date (in descending order)
    3. Publication marked "Working Paper" and by Title

  3. Publications by most recent year (2017)
    1. Publications by most recent year (2017) and have been marked Sticky
    2. Publications by most recent year (2017) and by Created By date
    3. Publication by most recent year (2017) and by Title

  4. Publications by most recent year (2016)
    1. Publications by most recent year (2016) and have been marked Sticky
    2. Publications by most recent year (2016) and by Created By date
    3. Publication by most recent year (2016) and by Title

  5. Publications by most recent year (2015, etc.)

Harvard Chicago Author-Date Citation Style

The Harvard Chicago Author style has a dfferent sort order based on the fields available within it's entries. It will be sorted by the date published (as this citation allows the user to enter the month and day though it is an optional field). The sorting will take into account the day, if it's specified, and sort in descending order. If only the month is specified in a publication, it will be sorted as if the day was in the beginning of the month; if there are several publications that only specify the same month, they will be sorted alphabetically (ascending) by title. If only the year is specified, they will be sorted as if the date was at the beginning of the year and then by title.

Example (the "Sample Title" text is the publication title and the date is as it was entered):

2017

  • Sample Title (2017-04-27)
  • Sample Title (2017-02-14)
  • Sample Title (2017-02)
  • Sample Title (2017-02)
  • Sample Title (2017-01-05)
  • Sample Title (2017)
